LN Scores Conference Paper Hat Trick |
Liquid Narrative Group researchers score hat trick, three for three in recent conference submissions LN graduate students Leo Bae, Pat Cash and Jim Thomas have all received news that papers reporting their recent research efforts have been accepted at leading conferences relating to AI and Computer Games. Working with their advisor Michael Young, the three have made contributions ranging from a greater understanding of the creation of surprise in computer-created narratives to tools that help game developers make use of AI knowledge representations to models of learning in computer games that can be captured by intelligent systems. France wins Scholarly Achievement Award |
Joe France Wins CSC Scholarly Achievement Award for the 2008-2009 Academic Year
Joe France is the winner of CSC's Scholarly Achievement Award. This award is for a student who excels both inside and outside the classroom. Joe, a December, 2008 graduate, completed the CSC Honors Program and the University Honors Program and minored in Art and Design. His work, “Alternative User Navigation of 3-Dimensional Virtual Space,” will be published in the Spring 2009 issue of the North Carolina State University Journal of Undergraduate Research. Currently, Joe is employed as an educational video game developer at 360ed in Orlando, FL, where he works on training games for doctors who treat burn victims. Young wins Extension Award |
| Young Honored for Extension, Engagement, and Economic Development Efforts Dr. R. Michael Young, associate professor of computer science at NC State University, has been named an Outstanding Extension Service Award (OESA) recipient for the College of Engineering. Young has also been inducted into the Academy of Outstanding Faculty Engaged in Extension (AOFEE). The purpose of the OESA awards is to encourage and recognize outstanding extension, engagement, and economic development activities by faculty and EPA employees of NC State University. Young is being honored for his achievements over the last five calendar years working between DGRC faculty and the vibrant North Carolina computer games industry. Arnav Jhala sends this short report from Copenhagen to let us know some very big news. Hi Michael,
Shikha and I became proud parents of a little girl (7.2 lbs, 46 cm) today on the 12th of February.
Both mother and child are doing well. The baby still does not have a name, but there is a short list of good candidates.
